Being a man and a warrior is about so much more than just strapping on the gear and being a badass. It's about honor and fidelity and simple humanity. It's about courage, decency and the willingness to put anothers needs above your own. I am so proud of a nation that still produces men and women like Lance Corporal Myles Kerr. What an impact we can have on the lives of others simply from being honorable. Sometimes being a hero means finishing last.
A huge salute from me to a proud and worthy Warrior. Well done Marine. Very well done indeed. I am honored and humbled to consider myself your comrade in arms.

IMHO this is the least important, and probably easiest quality of being a warrior ... the other qualities mentioned are more difficult to accomplish, and less "glamorous" but much more revealing of the men/warriors who embody them.
I think the attitude that "It's not about me." is becoming far too rare in our world today.

The more I read, the greater my respect for the Marine Corps. They truly look out for their own, anyone they consider to be their own, and those around them who are in need. Sure, this guy could have blown past the kid and finished the race, probably won an award with his team. An award that nobody will really remember a year from now. But this kid will remember this race for the rest of his life. Oorah, indeed!

This is something I have come to expect from Marines! What truly elevates Marines above any other military force in the world is their commitment to honor! When I was in Iraq during Desert Storm Waaaaay back when I was humbled and inspired by the actions of a Marine. An Iraq soldier was surrendering, other Iraq soldiers did not like what they saw and opened fire on the soldier who was surrendering. That soldier was hit in the leg and shoulder. Gun fire erupted from both sides, we had much better aim and the firefight did not last long. During that fight I saw a Marine run through the field of fire and drag the soldier who was surrendering to safety. A British soldier asked the Marine what the hell he did that for, and the Marine replied "If I let him die I would have become the very thing we are fighting against."
