He's Here!

I'm here and waiting for you

Got a call from Donna at Highland Labs about 2100 local. We have puppies!

Mom had a tri-color litter; 2 Yellows 3 Chocolate and 4 Black. There may be a 10th puppy coming (Donna would only say Mom didn't act like she was quite done yet) but as of now there is exactly one black male and he's promised to me.

It's interesting. When Trooper was born he was also the only black male. I often said we were meant to be together. That God had chosen him for me, to teach me the things I needed to learn. I hope it's an auspicious beginning to our relationship.

I need a dog. When I lost Trooper I felt lost and alone. I wondered if the hurt and pain would ever pass. In some ways it hasn't. I can feel the hot tears well up as I write about Trooper. But while the loss hasn't dimmed the pain has receded to a place where it's bearable. And now it's time to turn the page and begin a new chapter. Me and my new boy. I think Trooper would be glad for me. All he ever wanted was for me to be happy and today is a happy day.

Tonight Lu and I will celebrate. In about 3 weeks I'll head out and see him. Our first meeting. I'm going to wait to announce his name until he comes home somewhere around the first of July. Nothing spectacular, just no sense in taunting fate.

Happy birthday little man. I'll be seeing you soon.

Congrats! I don't know if I could deal with an intelligent dog like a Lab. I'm trained with Huskies and they aren't known for their obedience.

This guy is going to be fun for you. Apparently you've already got the name chosen.

Thanks guys.

This means you guys have to come visit again soon DO. He must be properly introduced to the kids.

I love Huskies but know absolutely nothing about them Ed. Other than that they're beautiful and strong dogs. Labs are...energy intensive. If you don't give them what they want they'll find a way. I've actually known the new boy's name for a while now Ed. I'm just a bit superstitious about announcing it before I actually get him home. Mr. Murphy never seems to take a day off.

I'll take the camera out with me in a couple of weeks and post some pictures.

Glad to see you have a new buddy to help keep you in line and out of trouble :D

The wife and I want to get a dog once the boy is a bit older, maybe around five or so when he can understand what we tell him and why.

I grew up with German Shepherds, Belgian Tervurens and Bearded Collies, but the wife saw this one dog at a show and fell in love with the breed (and so did I) Leonbergers. One of those might eat us out of house and home, but we will just have to see.

Fantastic! Keep us all informed.

You said it Instinct. I find I'm more patient and just generally easier to live with when I've got a dog. It's a pure wonder Lu has let me go this long. That woman is a Saint. I have experience with Shepherds and Tervurens (Police K9 and SAR) but not with Leonbergers. They look like very cool dogs. The grandkids got really interested in the dogs at about that age so I'd say you're spot on.

Thanks ML. I'll be hauling a camera down for my visit so expect some cute as hell puppy pics soon.

I am so happy for you! And yes, the singular fellow is obviously meant for you. And the fun begins again, eh?

We were spoiled by having two dogs who learned fast and well. (And spoiled more to have someone here now who can run the Malamute in the AM. WOOT!)

I cannot wait for the blog fodder to come!!

Thanks Laura. Yep, and I can't wait :) We do get spoiled by the good dogs but I'm of the opinion that it's more about good owners and I know you and Trooper are great dog people.
